Preliminary weekly sequencing
o Weeks 1–2: Introduction, key concepts, launching teamwork assignment with international partners

Tavoitteet
The study unit addresses sustainability and climate change challenge and aims to enhance entrepreneurial mindset.
During the course students increase sustainability competences and develop green skills.
Students work on the projects aiming to solve real life problems with innovative and creative approach.
Students are able to apply ‘problem-to-solution’ tools and systematic design thinking methodology.
The course helps students to develop business ideas that can be transferred into a real-life sustainable entrepreneurship ventures.
Students understand how businesses should operate in order to embrace sustainability in their actions to have a net zero future impact.
This course is based on problem-based and project-based learning approach focusing on practical hands-on activities and project work. This course is implemented in cooperation with international partners.

Aika ja paikka
Most of the lectures and learning activities take place in class (about 80%), while several sessions can be are carried out online, typically with the participation of lecturers from other parts of Finland or abroad. The on-site sessions are held at Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Rovaniemi campus.
Oppimateriaalit
The learning materials used in the course include online materials, articles related to the topic, and books. The learning materials will be announced in Moodle online learning environment at the beginning of the course.
Opetusmenetelmät
Teaching employs a range of pedagogical methods to support diverse learning needs and active engagement. The course combines lectures, teamwork, problem and project -based learning, practice-based workshops, and independent study to foster both theoretical understanding and practical application. Project- and practice-based learning activities are integrated throughout the course, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in real or simulated contexts and to develop collaborative and problem-solving skills.
The course uses Teams, Moodle online learning environment
The course will be assessed based on the completion of course assignments and the project work.
Course completions are assessed within one month after the course ends.
This course follows the Arene’s recommendations on the use of artificial intelligence for universities of applied sciences. Use of AI is allowed during the course — you may use it, but you must disclose it (yellow). However, its use is prohibited in the final exam — you may not use it (red).
Harjoittelu- ja työelämäyhteistyö
Students work on real life problem cases developing the solutions to given challenges. Students participate in seminar and workshop working on real life company case.

Examination is based on course assignment portfolio. Detailed assignment instruction is provided at the beginning of the course.
Kansainvälisyys
During the course invited lecturers from international partner universities can provide theme lectures.
Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat
There is no provision for alternative completion methods. Alternative completion methods are discussed with the responsible teacher in particular case-by-case situations.

The course is worth 5 credits, which corresponds to approximately 135 hours of total work.
The student workload is distributed on average as follows:
- Face-to-Face on-campus/online study and workshops: 60 h (e.g., lectures and exercises, project work, reporting, presentation)
- Independent learning and preparation: 40 h (reading materials, exercises, learning assignments)
- Group work and collaborative learning: 35 h (project work, peer feedback)

Evaluation criteria
Pass:
Students know the meaning of sustainable entrepreneurship and are able to identify relevant solution to sustainability, climate change and social problems.
Students are able to apply problem-to-solution and project based tools and produce a business idea with sustainable impact.
Students can create an action plan for the idea implementation and to produce professional pitch.

Lisätiedot
The course is implemented by two alternatives
Alternative 1.
Independent self-study completing all the assignments through the guidance in Moodle January-March, 2026
Alternative 2.
Participation in Blended Intensive Programme implemented with Erasmus partner universities.
It includes five weeks online learning with five online sessions January-February, and one intensive week study in February-March, 2026.
Note: only full time regular Lapland UAS degree students are accepted for Alternative 2.
Both, Lapland UAS and Exchange students can select alternative 1.
