Tavoitteet
After completing this course, the doctoral researcher is able to:
- understand the content and execution of effective presentations
- give effective presentations and develop their individual presentation style
- give constructive feedback on presentations.

Sisältö
The course aims to cultivate effective academic presentation skills and to develop participants’ confidence and presentation style. Doctoral researchers will practice communicating their research ideas in English to an academic audience. This will be achieved through exploring what makes a good presentation while considering the needs of an international audience, practicing giving presentations, and giving and receiving feedback on presentations.

In Autumn 2025, Presenting I will be offered live, in person, on campus. Please note that we might be able to make small adjustments to the course schedule according to participants’ needs. We will discuss this in our first class.

Opetusmenetelmät
This is a participation-based course, which means students need to attend and actively participate in classes. This primarily includes giving required presentations, participating in discussions, offering feedback on others’ presentations, and keeping a reflections journal during the course.
The course consists of 30 hours of class participation, 50 hours of independent work to become familiar with course material, prepare and carry out required tasks.

Pass
The doctoral researcher meets the attendance and participation requirements. They perform the required tasks as specified in the course description and according to instructions. Through the execution of the course tasks, the doctoral researcher demonstrates the development of a comprehensive understanding of the key elements and techniques involved in creating and delivering effective presentations; they demonstrate the development of a solid foundation for delivering presentations, including the ability to craft and refine their individual presentation style to suit various contexts and audiences; they demonstrate proficiency in providing constructive feedback on presentations, helping peers improve their presentation skills through thoughtful and actionable suggestions; and they attentively receive feedback on their own presentations and show they can incorporate this feedback to enhance their presentation skills.
Fail
The doctoral researcher fails to meet the attendance and participation requirements. They do not perform the required tasks as specified in the course description and according to instructions. The doctoral researcher fails to demonstrate the development of a comprehensive understanding of the key elements and techniques involved in creating and delivering effective presentations; they do not demonstrate a solid foundation for delivering presentations, including the ability to craft and refine their individual presentation style to suit various contexts and audiences; they fail to demonstrate proficiency in providing constructive feedback on presentations; and they no not attentively receive feedback on their own presentations and show they can incorporate this feedback to enhance their presentation skills and effectiveness.
