Week 1: Kick-off and innovation overview

Tavoitteet

The student knows innovation process, innovation tools and is able to apply them into practise when creating sustainable, commercialised customer oriented and viable ideas. He/she understands the role of innovations in global business world and in entrepreneurship.
He/she understands the role of technology and disruptive ideas that create change beyond standard business models.
He/she is able to take IP Rights into account in innovation process.
He/she understands the meaning of IP Rights in commercialisation of new ideas.
The student is able to create and analyse his/her own innovation project.
The student is able to make a professional presentation of his/her idea in English.

Kick-off meeting: 1 session, 2 hours
Guidance meetings: 5 sessions

Oppimateriaalit

Materials are provided via Moodle and include selected articles, online resources, and teacher-provided content. No mandatory textbook. AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT may be used for ideation and visualization.


Opetusmenetelmät

The course is delivered through project-based learning, team collaboration, and guided workshops. Students work independently and in groups, applying innovation tools and AI-assisted ideation. The course includes peer teaching, prototyping, and participation in an IPR workshop. AI tools are used in ideation and strategy development, following ARENE’s traffic light model

Harjoittelu- ja työelämäyhteistyö

The course includes a work-life related innovation project. Students apply innovation tools to real-world challenges and develop viable concepts with commercial potential.

Tenttien ajankohdat ja uusintamahdollisuudet

No traditional exam. Assessment is based on project work, workshops, and assignments. Retake options are available for failed components, agreed upon with the teacher.

Kansainvälisyys

The course addresses global innovation trends and disruptive technologies. It is part of the international curriculum and open to exchange students.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

Students may complete the concept portfolio individually or in groups (1–4 persons). AI-assisted ideation is mandatory. Peer teaching and workshops are group-based. Prior learning may be recognized through HOT procedures.

The student knows the innovation process and tools and is able to apply them into practise with assistance when creating sustainable, commercialised, customer oriented and viable ideas.
He/she understands the role of innovations and role of technology and disruptive ideas that create change beyond standard business models.
The student knows the basics of IP Rights and their use in protecting new ideas and is able to take them into account in innovation process.
He/she understands the meaning of IP Rights in commercialisation of new ideas.
The student is able to create and analyse his/her own innovation project with assistance.

Taso 2
The innovation process and tools:
The student can describe the innovation process and tools with examples and is able to apply them some of them independently when creating sustainable, commercialised, customer oriented and viable ideas.
The student is able to apply innovations in creating change.
The student can describe and give examples of IP Rights and their use in protecting new ideas and is able to take them into account in innovation process.
