You understand human aging as part of the life cycle and you know the knowledge and value base, and ethical principles of gerontological nursing.
You can use evidence-based nursing recommendations and the methods of nursing and health promotion in nursing and decision-making for the elderly.
You can take into account the most common geriatric diseases and the basics of good nutrition as well as the medication process in the care of the elderly.
You are able to engage in professional interaction and decision-making with the elderly and their loved ones.
You can apply diverse teaching and guidance methods and utilize electronic services and wellness technology.
You implement resource- and customer-oriented nursing work for the elderly.
You carry out safe multi-professional and rehabilitative care for the elderly in different operating environments.
You can apply the principles and methods of palliative and hospice work.

Opetusmenetelmät

The practical training promoting professional skills, for which a supervisor is appointed from the workplace and a supervising teacher on behalf of the school.

In the practical training student uses Workseed's electronic evaluation book, in which the student records their personal goals, as well as mid-term and final evaluations. The student also distributes the evaluation book for the workplace supervisor. The teacher also monitors the setting of goals and the progress of the training through the evaluation book.

Mid-term and final evaluation discussions will be held with the supervising teacher, at the time of which the student agrees with the teacher. The participation of the workplace supervisor in the evaluation discussions is desirable.

Toteutuksen valinnaiset suoritustavat

The course can be completed as normal practical training, or as work-based training (paid work) if there are nurses in the work unit. If you are considering completing your practical training as paid work in your current role, you must have a work contract for at least five weeks. Read the instructions for paid training carefully in the Moodle 'Hoitotyön harjoittelut' workspace.

The responsible teacher of the practical training and practical training coordinators must be informed sufficiently in advance (in accordance with the Lapland UAS process) of the implementation of the practical training.

8 credits = 5 weeks of practical training, the number of hours of training per week is 38 h 45 min and total hours 193 h 45 min.

Absences from the training must be compensated for.

Fail

● You lack understanding of human aging as part of the life cycle. You fail to know the knowledge and value base and ethical principles of gerontological nursing.
● You are not familiar with the national nursing recommendations based on researched knowledge and methods of nursing, or health promotion in nursing and decision-making for the elderly.
● You are not able to take into account the most common geriatric diseases and the basics of good nutrition as well as the medication process in the care of the elderly.
● You are not able engage in professional interaction and decision-making with the elderly person and their loved ones.
● You are not able to apply diverse teaching and guidance methods and utilize electronic services and well-being technology.
● You cannot carry out resource- and customer-oriented nursing work for the elderly.
● You cannot carry out safe multi-professional and rehabilitative care for the elderly in different operating environments.
● You don’t have the competence to use the principles and methods of palliative and hospice care.

Before this practical training, the student should have completed the Internal Medicine Nursing course and the practical training in Internal Medicine Nursing.

In addition, tuition-specific drug calculation must be successfully completed!

The teacher must be notified of the training position well in advance via the registration form in the Moodle 'Hoitotyön harjoittelut' workspace. The teacher will then accept or reject the practical training proposal.

If you have not yet completed the 10-credit theory course Supporting the Functional Capacity of the Elderly, you must complete the pre-task preparation for the practical training according to the instructions in Moodle and submit your assignments at least two weeks before the planned start of the training. Remember to inform the responsible teacher for the practical training.
