You can identify the most important mental health, addiction and substance abuse problems.
You can apply care recommendations and principles and understand the networked nature of the mental health and substance abuse care service system.
You can assess the impact of mental health disorders and substance abuse on the well-being of a person and their family.
Under supervision, you can participate in teamwork as a member of the work community when providing different forms of treatment. You can work in dialogue with customers and their loved ones.
You can use the support, peer assessments and feedback of the work community to promote your professional growth.
You know how to work in compliance with the principles of patient safety and occupational safety.

Opetusmenetelmät

Students will:
- analyze and identify elements of positive mental health in human life stories and in the comprehensive promotion of health
- is able to explain the most common mental health and substance abuse problems and describe the related nursing principles and treatment recommendations as well as service and treatment systems in different operating environments from the perspective of the client's life management
- assesses the impact of mental health disorders and substance abuse on the well-being of individuals and their families
- participates in teamwork when selecting and implementing different forms of treatment at the individual, family, group, and community levels, and is familiar with medication and other rehabilitation and treatment methods
- is able to engage in dialogue with clients and their loved ones in different operating environments, supporting clients' psychological well-being in a collegial manner
- is open to their own feelings and experiences that arise in different encounters and discusses them with the treatment team
- uses work guidance and support from the work community, peer evaluation, and feedback in their professional development, analyzing their own personal strengths and areas for development in care relationship work and the promotion of well-being at work
- follows the principles of patient safety and occupational safety in their work

Pass:
You can identify elements of positive mental health in a person’s biography and health promotion.

Fail:
The student has significant deficiencies in their interaction with customers, families and community members in a responsible and professional manner.
The student does not use customers’ experiential knowledge in the treatment of their health and illness.
The student is not capable of professional and therapeutic interaction with customers of different ages and their loved ones under supervision.
The student has significant deficiencies in their competence in patient and occupational safety.
The student does not participate and is not able to explain the importance of expertise in a multi-professional work community.
The student’s participation in the supervision and evaluation discussions is deficient. The student does not fully understand the legislation and ethical guidelines concerning professional practice. The student’s actions violate human rights.
The student describes their own activities and the ethical characteristics of the sector inconsistently. The student’s knowledge of various evidence-based methods of health promotion to promote mental health and functional capacity is deficient and fragmented.
