Tavoitteet

After completion of the course the student is able to
- recognise the aims, forms and nature of sociological research
- identify and use social theories and sociological concepts when building arguments about social worlds, relations and environments
- do a sociological analysis of different kinds of mobilities and mobility experiences as part of responsible planning of tourism and leisure environments
- read, write, and draw from academic texts in English as well as to draw from observational work in urban spaces
- see how class, gender, and forms of travel affect environments of sustainable mobilities and motilities.

Oppimateriaalit

Course literature will be given in Moodle at the start of the course.


Opetusmenetelmät

Two two-week long periods of flipped classroom for reading about the four main themes of the course in course literature;
submissions of assignments in Moodle;
four online lecture sessions with videos on, during two separate weeks;
resubmissions;
and as the last assignment, a self-reflection paper.
Attending online lectures can be replaced by extra submissions written independently.

Fail (0): No demonstration an understanding of the nature of social sciences and the course contents, scarce or no participation in class, no ability to analyze these contents in relation to real-life phenomena of tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

Sufficient (1): Demonstration of a minimum understanding of the nature of social analysis and the course contents, minimum participation in class, and an emerging ability to analyze these contents in relation to real-life phenomena of tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

Satisfactory (2): Demonstration of a thin, narrow or selective understanding of the nature of social analysis and the course contents, passive participation in class, and some ability to analyze these contents in relation to real-life phenomena of tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

Arviointikriteerit, hyvä (3)

Good (3): Demonstration of good understanding of the nature of social sciences and the course contents, as well participation in class, and a good ability to analyze these contents in relation to social realities in tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

Very good (4): Demonstration of very good understanding of the nature of social sciences and the course contents, as well active participation in class, and a very good ability to analyze these contents in relation to social realities in tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

Excellent (5): Demonstration of holistic and deep understanding of the nature of social sciences and the course contents, as well active participation in class, and an excellent ability to analyze these contents critically and creatively in relation to real-life phenomena of tourism and leisure experiences and environments.

At least two years of university studies of or at least three years of studies in a school of applied sciences.

Lisätiedot

Feedback from students is collected through self-reflection papers at the end of the course and teacher gives personal feedback related to Moodle submissions both during the course and at the end of it.
