Tavoitteet

After successfully completing the course, you will:

• know your strengths, skills and values, and have some concrete examples of these
• know how to make and conduct plans for your career
• know more about the current job market prospects for doctoral candidates
• know strategies to find possible job openings and contact employers
• know how to make an interesting job application documents and present yourself.

Toteutustavat

The course will take place online (Moodle) and the language is English.

Suoritustavat

During this online course, the doctoral researcher will go through six modules during the six weeks completing learning assignments. After the completion of all the exercises, personal feedback will be given.

Week 4 Job hunting part I: CV and letter
Week 5 Job hunting Part II: Elevator Pitch and Job interview
Week 6 Personal action plan: A step forward

Opetusmenetelmät

The course consists of six learning sessions (2h each), two optional group sessions (1h each) and independent work between the learning sessions and a personal career development plan.

The learning sessions (6 of 2h each) will take place online. The learning sessions will be interactive, participatory webinars, in which real-time participation is encouraged. In addition to the learning sessions, the course includes two (1h each) optional group meetings. The focus of the group meetings will be on peer-to-peer discussions.

The independent work will include studying of learning materials, small learning tasks (pre-/interim) and the preparation of a career development plan. Individual feedback will be given on the career development plans. The course will be delivered entirely online (Profile: Online 1). The language will be English. The learning sessions will be recorded.

Esitietovaatimukset

The course is arranged for doctoral researchers at the University of Lapland and is especially suitable for the early phase of doctoral studies.
