Sisällön jaksotus
Will be informed in the beginning of the study unit.
Tavoitteet
The student participates in a small-scale project or a development assignment which is preferably sustainable, multicultural and/or international in nature and commissioned by e.g. an organisation, a destination or a nationally/internationally funded project.
Examples:
• national RESTO-competition
• international EMCup
• Baltic-Nordic TURID-intensive course
The participation requires 120 ECTS of Bachelor-level studies in the tourism and hospitality field.
Sisältö
• Exploring the operating environment based on the commission
• Deepening the knowledge of the commission-based themes in theory and practice (relevant case studies and examples, pre-assignments)
• Planning, coaching and implementation as well as assessment of the commission-based activities and reports
• Presentation of the results achieved in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders
Aika ja paikka
The destination and timetable of the Practical journey is determined based on the case study.
If the student participates the case study in Rovaniemi then the Practical Journey is during week 41.
However, if you participate the case study abroad, the Practical Journey is during week 43.
Oppimateriaalit
The learning material is given in the beginning of the study unit as the contents depend on the commission and the case study.
Opetusmenetelmät
The study unit consists of three parts:
1. Theoretical Journey which is related to studying theoretical topics related to commission, which varies yearly basis.
2. Practical Journey which is implemented as an intensive course or a study tour
3. Reflective Journey which is for documenting and analysing the experiences during the Practical Journey

The study unit has a commission from tourism industry.

The study unit is connected to an international partner school and/or project.

The student has basic knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration some relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs quite passively in the commission-based activities and has somewhat limited abilities to apply team work skills in action. He/she shows vague analytical, reflective and critical approach in commission and team work-related tasks. The assignments are completed but not always performed according to the instructions and deadlines.
Poor (1)
The student has basic knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration some relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs passively in the commission-based activities and does not have the ability to apply team work skills in action. He/she has no analytical, reflective and critical approach in commission and team work-related tasks. The assignments are completed but not always performed according to the instructions and deadlines.
Fail (0)
The student does not complete the assignments according to the instructions or does not attend the learning situations at all. He/she does not pass the assignments, tests and/or the exam as required.
These are the general assessment criteria. Please note that there might be more specific assessment criteria for learning assignments which will be given at the beginning of the study unit.

The student performs actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action very well. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in most commission and team work-related tasks. All the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.
Good (3)
The student has good knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration most of the relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs quite actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action well. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in most commission and team work-related tasks. Most of the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

The student has profound knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration all the relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action in an excellent manner. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in all commission and team work-related tasks. All the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.
Lisätiedot
If the commission and the intensive week is organised in Rovaniemi, there is no additional costs for students.
If the commission and intensive week is organised abroad or a long distance away from Rovaniemi, the study unit requires travelling and therefore students are to co-finance a part of the expenses in addition to the grants received. The usual amount of co-financing has been 50 - 100 € depending on the destination and the commission.
