Tavoitteet

Opintojakson suoritettuaan opiskelija osaa
- tunnistaa modernismin ja nykytaiteen tyylejä ja ilmiöitä
- arvioida ja selittää nykytaiteen muutosten taustatekijöitä
- hahmottaa nykytaiteen merkityksiä osana yhteiskuntaa

Sinulla on mahdollisuus suorittaa taidehistorian aineopintoja UYLE0331V24-3001 Kuvataide 1900- ja 2000-luvulla (2-3 op) seuraavien syksyn luentojen pohjalta:

1) Taiteiden tiedekunnassa vieraileva tsekkiläinen apulaisprofessori Lenka Sýkorová pitää kaksi englanninkielistä luentoa
2) Rovaniemen taidemuseo järjestää syksyllä luentosarjan Pensselistä vasaraan

Lecture Drawing as a nonverbal communication tool

Thinking through drawing. Drawing provides space where you can slow down. You can also think through drawing. The societal challenges in recent years have taught us to pay greater attention to everyday events, a moment of slowdown and full perception of the here and now. Being an intimate gesture, drawing is perceived by many artists as the most direct medium for expressing experiences with a specific sense of sensitivity to noticing the great or small history that is currently taking place. A sketch of an idea has accompanied artists since time immemorial. By combining the mind, eye and hand, they can capture the world around us. The drawing line, whether on paper or guided by matter in space, is a strong visual gesture of contemporary intermedia artists.

Presentation of research focused on the medium of drawing from the point of view of soft sculpture in the context of contemporary intermedia art. I will focus on presentation and interpretation of Polish artist Karolina Lizurej and her solo exhibitions in the Altán Klamovka in Prague Gallery Some stories to tell (2021) and exhibition I‘ll open for you a golden sky (2022) in the Artifex Gallery in Vilnius, Austrian artist Jasmin Schaitl and her solo exhibition Reciprocity (2021), Lithuanian artist Marija Griniuk and her solo exhibition Techno‐Diving into Reflexive Painting (2022) and Ukrainian artist Darja Lukjanenko and her solo show Irij (2023) in the Prague's Altán Klamovka Gallery. At the same time, I will give them in context of group exhibitions - On the Wings of Life (2022) in the Regional Gallery in Liberec, Here and Now (2021) at the international Festival 4 + 4 Days in Motion in Prague, Like living in the clouds (2022) at the international festival Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm and Searching for lost worlds (2023) at Supermarket Art Fair.

Lecture Curatorial strategies

The aim of the lecture is to document the manifestations of curatorship defined by the terms: independent curator and artist-curator with an emphasis on experiment, and by the notion of an independent gallery run (artist-run space) in the intentions of a laboratory of contemporary visual art in the environment of Central Europe with overlaps to Scandinavian countries (Supermarket Independent Art Fair in Stockholm, Sami Center for Contemporary Art in Karasjok) and Los Angeles (Durdan and Ray Gallery, Tryst - Alternative art Fair, Torrance Art Museum).

Lenka Sýkorová, Associate Professor (1977, Prague) is an art historian, critic and curator of contemporary fine art. She studied the History of Art at the Faculty of Philosophy at Charles University in Prague, received her PhD (2012) and Associate Professor (2022) from the Faculty of Art and Design of the J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. She has been the curator of the Altán Klamovka Gallery in Prague since 2004. As a curator, she participated in exhibition projects exploring the medium of drawing, including the diversity of its manifestations in contemporary intermedia work.
