Tavoitteet

After successful completion of the course, participants will successfully
1) develop the ability to follow TV news in French over a prolonged period of time
2) follow the main currents of events
3) practice and develop their listening comprehension in French
4) practice and develop their capacity for critical analysis.

Keeping a regular diary about the main news for a period of eight weeks.

Sisältö

This course can be completed either at the University of Lapland (during any period) or during a student exchange or an internship in a French-speaking country. Participants follow TV news for eight consecutive weeks, watching at least 24 different broadcasts. Participants may watch the news either on French television or on the website apprendre.tv5.monde.com. They keep a diary, taking down the main news of the day, and following the developments over the chosen period. The diary will be written in French. It is to be 10-12 pages long (standard font size 11).

Esitietovaatimukset

French 1-4, or equivalent courses.

A reading comprehension course (TRAN0201 or ORAN0710 and ORAN0810) is recommended.
