Objective

Having successfully completed the course, the student
1) is familiar with the basic structures of Italian grammar and can use them in simple utterances and short texts
2) understands slowly articulated questions about issues related to their family, hobbies, and everyday life and can answer the questions with simple utterances
3) can interact in some communicative situations that can be encountered during a short stay in Italy
4) achieves CEFR level A1.

Content

The course continues further into the structures of Italian grammar and basic vocabulary. You will learn to tell more about yourself, your family, hobbies and everyday life. You will also learn how to interact in such situations as you could encounter, for example, when visiting Italy as a tourist.
The course is built around three main units:
1) La mia vita quotidiana > telling about your daily routine, hobbies and family.
2) Destinazione paradiso > travelling to Italy: at the airport, at the train station, in a hotel.
3) Turisti per caso > visiting an Italian city as a tourist: asking for information and directions, using public transport, sightseeing.
During the lessons, we will concentrate on listening comprehension, pronunciation and speaking exercises, and we will use pair and group exercises and small games in order to activate your communication skills. At home, you will be required to do some preparatory work for the lessons, as well as some homework and online activities in order to reinforce the language structures you have learnt in the course.

Materials

Teacher’s own materials are used in the course. If you want to study with a course book, see e.g. Gruppo Italiaidea. New Italian Espresso Beginner / Pre-intermediate. Alma Edizioni.

Teaching methods

After the introductory meeting, students will complete an independent study module in the course's Moodle workspace. After the independent study period, course meetings will be held both online and in contact teaching. Participation in online and contact teaching is mandatory.
