Objective
This course is a review of French vocabulary and grammar through everyday life situations and tasks.
Listening, interacting, oral and written language skills will be practiced. The structures of different types of texts will be studied to improve reading comprehension.
Having successfully completed the course the student will be able to
1. understand everyday French and cope with conversational situations
2. read and understand different types of texts in French
3. get to know different aspects of Francophone culture and everyday life
4. achieve the level B1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Accomplishment methods
Pair and small group work and contact teaching (36h).
Student’s individual or small group work (60 h), including homework assignments, preparatory work for the classes, online exercises and activities.
Final exam (written).
Regular attendance and active participation in exercises are also required to complete the course.
It is allowed to miss a maximum of 2 classes. Extra work will be necessary to make up for any missed class.
Content
In this course you will review vocabulary and grammar through everyday life situations and tasks:
1. find an apartment and a roommate
2. set up an alibi and justify your schedule
3. organize a weekend in your city for your French friends
4. organize a debate
5. create a personality test and prepare a job interview.
During the lessons, we will concentrate on listening comprehension, pronunciation and speaking exercises through pair and group exercises and small games.
At home, you will be required to do some preparatory work for the lessons, as well as some homework and online activities.
Materials
1) Digital textbook:
Title: Nouveau Rond-Point 2 – Livre et Cahier numériques (12 mois) – Élève
Edition: Maison des Langues (EMDL).
2) Teacher’s own material.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
1) 80% attendance. It is allowed to miss a maximum of 2 classes. Extra work will be necessary to make up for any missed class.
2) Active participation in class.
3) Final exam (written).
Qualifications
Level A2 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages), High school or equivalent (e.g. XRAN0001 French 1 - XRAN0004 French 4). If you have studied French in high school and you would like to attend the course, please contact the teacher before the beginning of the course.
