Tavoitteet

After completion of the course the student is able to
- describe how organization studies carry cultural images that reinforce gender, racial and ethnic, and other inequalities in organizations
- analyze intersectional inequalities both in the global and organisational level
- provide ideas and have tools on how to promote equality and inclusion in organizations.

Toteutustavat

Lectures, reading circle and group work presentations (24 h). Group work. Independent work.

Suoritustavat

Students are expected to do 1) a pre-assignment before the course, 2) a learning diary, and 3) a group work. All the assignments will be available in Moodle. Active participation in lectures, listening to and communicating respectfully with others of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

Sisältö

The course will engage participants in reflecting how organization studies carry cultural assumptions concerning gender, race and ethnicity, and other intersectional differences, and how these assumptions are ingrained in organizational processes and practices. The course offers frameworks and tools for analyzing gendering and racializing organizational processes and practices and provides ideas on how such exclusionary practices could be challenged. The examples discussed during the course explore people and organizations in different societal and cultural contexts and multinational corporations.
