Tavoitteet
Learning objectives
Upon completing this module, the student should be able to discuss in depth various questions related to international human rights law.
Toteutustavat
A) 2 ECTS: lectures and/or seminar
B) 3 ECTS: (electronic) literature exam on Shelton Dinah L., Advanced Introduction to International Human Rights Law (2nd ed., Edward Elgar 2020). The examination is available as an e-exam in the electrical exam service (called EXAM).
NB. It is recommended that you study both parts (A&B) simultaneously as they are planned to support each other. However, you need to take (and pass) first the lecture/seminar module (A). The 5 ECTS of the entire study module will be registered after you have passed also part B. Total grade of the study module: A: 40% + B: 60%.

The module ONEVAL0028 consists of 2 parts (A & B):
A) 3 ECTS: lectures and/or seminar
B) 2 ECTS: (electronic) literature exam on Shelton Dinah L., Advanced Introduction to International
Human Rights Law (2nd ed., Edward Elgar 2020). Chapters 3-9 (pp. 44-288). The examination is available as an e-exam in the electrical exam service (called EXAM).
NB. The 3 ECTS lecture/seminar course (for part A) as well as the 2 ECTS literature exam (for part B) are available only in fall term 2023 [in spring term 2024, there will be of another type of 5 ECTS combination available for this module]. If you want to gain (instead of the total 5 ECTS) only the 3 ECTS (part A) or the 2 ECTS (part B), this is also possible.

This introduction to human rights law covers a wide range of topics from philosophy of human rights to the right to life, privacy, expression, and more. After this course, students will have learned the basics of human rights protection from an international perspective, the key sources of human rights legislation, and the most relevant international legal instruments. The course will be taught as contact teaching, including lectures and seminars to give a well-rounded understanding of the topics covered.
