Tavoitteet
By successfully completing the course, the doctoral researchers will learn:
- to select relevant data to the qualitative study
- to develop a method for the analysis of the material
- to conduct a preliminary analysis of the material
- to understand the differences between content, narrative and discourse analysis.
Toteutustavat
The course has two parts. The first part is based on the online lectures and exercises that provide resources to write an assignment. The second part consists of a seminar where the longer 5 ECTS assignments are presented and given feedback.
The course can be accomplished by doing a longer (5 ECTS credits) or a shorter (3 ECTS credits) assignment.
In the longer assignment (5 ECTS) the students are expected to use qualitative material from their dissertation work in progress, select and develop a method for the analysis of that material and conduct a preliminary analysis of it.
In the shorter assignment (3 ECTS) the students are expected to analyze qualitative material that the teacher gives to them and conduct a preliminary analysis of it.
Each participant is expected to write either a longer or shorter assignment. We wish you can come to the course in person, but a remote connection will also be made available.
Suoritustavat
To complete the course with 5 ECTS, the doctoral candidates need to
1) fulfill the pre-task and the group exercises during the workshop and
2) write an assignment that is based on one’s own dissertation data.
To complete the course with 3 ECTS, the doctoral candidates need to
1) fulfill the pre-task and the group exercises during the workshop and

The participants who finish the longer assignment (5 ECTS) will receive feedback on their assignments in the seminar that is held in Keropirtti.
