Code: XVEN0223V24

Credits

4 op

Objective

After successful completion of the course, participants will be able
1) to find relevant information in Russian on academic subjects on the internet and
2) to apply reading and problem-solving strategies to extensive academic texts in Russian.

Content

Participants are required to find a relevant academic text in Russian related to their main subject of study (social sciences, education, law, arts etc.). The text is to be ca. 12 pages (250–500 words per page). The text chosen should satisfy the requirements of level B2 reading. A popular science text is a typical example of a text at this level.
The participants will work independently with the text and write a summary of 2–3 pages in English or in Finnish. The participants will also produce a vocabulary list (50–100 words) of the central terminology used. All materials: the processed text, the summary in Finnish or English, and the vocabulary of terms will be submitted to the teacher at a pre-agreed time.
The student is in contact with the teacher at least twice: at the beginning of the course (to have the text approved by the teacher, to agree on the rules and the deadline) and at the end of the course (to discuss the points that the student found challenging about the text and to receive feedback on the work).
