After completing this course, the doctoral researcher is able to:
- use tactics for communicating their research interests to different types of audiences
- present their research ideas effectively to different types of audiences
- engage different types of audiences with their research.
Sisältö
The course aims to cultivate the effective communication of participants’ research ideas to different types of audiences. Participants will explore tactics for transmitting their research interests, activities and results in English to different types of academic and non-academic target groups (e.g., funders, the general public, friends and family, academics from other disciplines, and the media). This will be achieved through determining the points of view of different types of audiences and then practicing creative engagement with these through the use of effective communication.

Pass
The doctoral researcher meets the attendance requirements, participates in the lectures, and completes the assignments and tasks as specified in the course description and according to instructions. During the course, the doctoral researcher demonstrates an understanding of various strategies for effectively communicating their research interests to diverse audiences; they demonstrate a solid foundation for presenting their research ideas clearly and persuasively, tailored to the needs and expectations of different audience types; they actively engage with different audiences through presentations, discussions, or other interactive formats, showing their ability to adapt their communication style to maintain interest and understanding.
Fail
The doctoral researcher does not meet the attendance requirements, does not adequately participate in the lectures, and fails to complete the assignments and tasks as specified in the course description. The doctoral researcher fails to demonstrate an understanding of various strategies for effectively communicating their research interests to diverse audiences; they fail to demonstrate a solid foundation for presenting their research ideas clearly and persuasively, tailored to the needs and expectations of different audience types; and they do not actively engage with different audiences through presentations, discussions, or other interactive formats, thus failing to show their ability to adapt their communication style to maintain interest and understanding.
