Osaamistavoitteet

Having completed the course, the participants i.e. doctoral candidates
• have attended an interdisciplinary Arctic studies conference
• are familiar with the practicalities of academic conference participation and presentation (abstract submission, paper presentation, serving as a chair and/or discussant)
• are able to give and accept academic feedback in a constructive manner
• have made use of the seminar sessions to develop their ongoing research work.

Sisältö

The course program consists of 2 two-day research seminars. The opening seminar takes place annually in October (in conjunction with the Northern Political Economy Symposium) and the closing seminar is arranged in early May. Participation in these seminars is mandatory. In addition, a series of smaller-scale research seminar sessions will be arranged bi-monthly throughout the academic year in order to provide the course participants a venue to present and discuss their ongoing research work. Participation in these sessions is voluntary, but strongly encouraged.

Esitietovaatimukset

The course is targeted to doctoral candidates at the University of Lapland.

Toteutustavat

The seminar assembles regularly during the academic year. The participants give presentations, familiarize themselves with each other’s presentations, provide comments on them, and discuss them.

Suoritustavat

Participation in the two annual 2-day doctoral programme seminars; oral paper presentation in at least one of the two seminars; a written assignment, if paper is presented only in one conference; serving as a chair and/or discussant in one of the symposiums.

Participation in the bi-monthly seminar sessions is not required for completing the course.

Active participation in different participant ‘roles’ in two academic conferences is required.
