Is able to comprehensively identify, confront, guide and support the individual needs of patients and their loved ones and is able to utilize presence as a method of helping.
Is able to plan, implement and evaluate the treatment of symptoms and pain of a patient in palliative care, and to guide the patient and his or her loved ones, taking into account individual needs
Understands the concept of total suffering, and is able to apply this knowledge in their work
Is able to select and use appropriate symptom questionnaires and measures in treatment
Knows the principles of safe and effective medical and non-pharmacological care of a patient undergoing palliative care
Knows how to work in a multi-professional team to facilitate patient symptom management
Understand the process of death and applies their knowledge in patient care after death, taking into account the patient's loved ones
Content
-Comprehensive encounters, dialogical interaction and discussion of difficult issues between the palliative and the hospice patient and their loved ones
-Mechanisms of emergence and treatment of the most common symptoms (pain, shortness of breath, gi-channel symptoms, ascites, mental symptoms, fatigue, cachexia, skin symptoms)
-Treatment of pain in different patient groups, medical treatment - especially with opioids -, non-pharmacological pain management
-Medical and non-pharmacological treatment of other symptoms
-Symptom questionnaires and pain assessment tools
-Multi-professional teamwork
-Principles of palliative sedation
-Death and post-death care
-Hospice care

You deepen your professional skills in meeting and supporting a patient in palliative care, as well as their loved ones.
You are able to define the need for, and implementation of, symptom and pain management for a patient undergoing palliative care, and you are able to evaluate the process of symptom care.
You are able to detect changes in the condition of the palliative patient and draw conclusions from them, and select a suitable evidence-based symptom questionnaire or measure, as well as a method of operation as directed.
You are able to assess the patient's condition in palliative care under supervision and to choose suitable medical and non-pharmaceutical treatments.
You are able to carry out the care of a dying patient and pay attention to the loved ones of the patient after death.
