Objective

You know how to treat internal medicine patients as part of a multi-professional team.
You know how to determine patients’ care needs comprehensively as well as plan, provide and assess evidence-based care with patients, their loved ones and those participating in the care process.
You know how to guide and support patients and their loved ones in a way that promotes health. You know how to work aseptically and in compliance with the principles of infection control.
Under supervision, you are able to participate in the diagnostic examinations of patients suffering from internal diseases.
You can plan, provide and assess the pharmacotherapy of the most common internal and cancer diseases, and you understand the medicinal and non-pharmacological treatment of pain.
You know how to work in compliance with the principles of patient safety and occupational safety. You can use various digital applications and solutions as well as the patient information system in internal medicine and cancer care and in guiding patients.
You can report verbally and in writing.
You can explain key evidence-based care and service chains in the treatment of internal and cancer diseases.
You know how to rely on a multi-professional team to support your work and decision-making and reflect on your work in different phases of the care process.

Materials

• All the material and instructions for the training can be found from Moodle: Hoitotyön harjoittelut. 


• Use the material provided the theory course during this training to deepen your learning and skills. 


• Use professional guidelines provided by Finnish sources such as: Terveysportti, Evidence Based Medical Guidelines by Duodecim, Current Care (Käypä Hoito) by Duodecim


• Use protocols and guidelines provided by the training placement


• Workseed--> assessment form of the training


• Use Medication Passport https://laakehoitopassi.fi/ 


• Take a small notebook  with you to keep record of your learning, vocabulary and for collecting feedback

Teaching methods

INFO of practical trainings on-campus 22.10.2025 at 14.15-15.45 Room 2052.

Guided practical training at the Medical/Internal diseases work environment: suitable placements to reserve-> check Hoitotyön harjoittelut Moodle.

*Workseed - evaluation form-> personal goals and evaluations+tasks

*Evaluation discussions via cellphone/Teams or Face to Face: Mid and Final are held between the teacher, student and a supervisor.

NOTE:

If you are Registered Nurse Degree outside the EU-area, and work experience in Nursing
-> take a contact to responsible teacher

*Possibility for a skills demonstration, assessed on a case-by-case basis

Contact responsible teacher and a study counsellor if you are willing to do your training in your own work environment as a practical nurse.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Fail:

• You do not have the ability to treat patients with major internal diseases as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
• You are unable to define the patient's care needs holistically. You do not know how to plan, implement, and evaluate evidence-based nursing work with the patient and their relatives, and with those involved in the nursing process.
• You are not able to guide and support the patient and their loved ones proactively, professionally, and by promoting health.
• You are unable to report orally and in writing and to act aseptically and in accordance with infection control principles.
• You are unable, under supervision, to participate in examinations and medication of a patient with internal medicine, justifying their need.
• You cannot work in accordance with the principles of patient safety and occupational safety.

Fail: The student has not achieved an acceptable level of competence.

Under supervision, you are able to participate in examinations and medication of a patient with internal diseases, and explain the rationale behind these procedures.
You are able to work in accordance with the principles of patient safety and occupational safety.

Pass:

- You can treat patients with major internal diseases as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- You are able to comprehensively define the patient's care needs and plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing work together with the patient and his or her relatives and those involved in the nursing process.
- You can guide and support the patient and their relatives proactively, professionally, and by promoting health.
- You can report orally and in writing and act aseptically and in accordance with the principles of infection control.
- You are able to participate in the examinations and medical treatment of a patient with internal diseases under supervision, with rationale.
