Teaching methods

The practical training promoting professional skills, for which a supervisor is appointed from the workplace and a supervising teacher on behalf of the school.

In the practical training student uses Workseed's electronic evaluation book, in which the student records their personal goals, as well as mid-term and final evaluations. The student also distributes the evaluation book for the workplace supervisor. The teacher also monitors the setting of goals and the progress of the training through the evaluation book.

Mid-term and final evaluation discussions will be held with the supervising teacher, at the time of which the student agrees with the teacher. The participation of the workplace supervisor in the evaluation discussions is desirable.

Completion alternatives

The course can be completed as a normal practical training or paid in one's own work if there are nurse(s) in the work unit. If you are considering completing practical as a paid internship in your own job, carefully read the instructions for paid internships in the Moodle “Hoitotyön harjoittelut” workspace.

The responsible teacher of the practical training and practical training coordinators must be informed sufficiently in advance (in accordance with the Lapland UAS process) of the implementation of the practical training.

Further information

The teacher will be notified of the internship position well in advance via the registration form in the Moodle “Hoitotyön harjoittelut” workspace, after which the teacher accepts or rejects the internship proposal.

If you have not completed yet the 10 ECTS theory period on Supporting the functional capacity of the elderly, you must complete the tasks related to preparing for the internship according to the instructions found in Moodle and return them to Moodle at least two weeks before the planned start of the internship. Remember to inform the responsible teacher of the practical training about it.

The student must have completed the Decision-Making in Clinical Nursing and Clinical Competence in Internal Medicine and Surgical Patient Nursing courses (the exam may not yet be taken), as well as the practical training in internal medicine nursing completed before this practical training.

In addition, tuition-specific drug calculation must be successfully completed!

Assessment methods and criteria

During the internship, mid-term and final evaluations will be held, attended by the student and the teacher, and the presence of the workplace supervisor is desired. The workplace supervisor can also provide written feedback in the Workseed evaluation book.

After the paid internship, a final discussion will be held between the student and the teacher.
