Tavoitteet

Explaining the concept and importance of coastal and marine tourism; identifying special characteristics of tourism in coastal destinations; describing the current state of play and topical issues of coastal tourism; demonstrating the importance of regulating, planning, and managing coastal tourism to improve sustainability; identifying impacts of climate change on the destinations as well as relevant sustainability issues in coastal destinations.

Definition of tourism in coastal and maritime destinations; special characteristics of tourism in coastal destinations; regulation, planning and management; impacts of climate change; sustainable development in coastal destinations.

Aika ja paikka

The course is based on self-studying between September 2025- December 2025. Definition of coastal and maritime tourism; coastal and maritime tourism sector; demand and supply; regulation, planning and management; integrated coastal zone management; sustainability and responsibility; impacts of climate change on tourism industry.

Opetusmenetelmät

This course is an online course based on self-studying. The course assignments includes essay writing and an online exam in Moodle. Competence: Student defines the concept of coastal and maritime tourism and analyses its state of play as a sector of Blue Growth. Student compares demand and supply of coastal and marine locations and water-based activities. Student explains the importance of regulating, planning, and managing the sector and the impacts of climate change on tourism industry. Student explores responsibility and sustainability in coastal and maritime tourism. Classification of competence: Basic level

Students choose and work on a coastal and maritime tourism destination (industry case) of their own interest.
