Tavoitteet

The student participates in a small-scale project or a development assignment which is preferably sustainable, multicultural and/or international in nature and commissioned by e.g. an organisation, a destination or a nationally/internationally funded project.

Examples:
• national RESTO-competition
• international EMCup
• Baltic-Nordic TURID-intensive course

Alternative implementation:
a student can
1) apply their own expertise and the latest knowledge of the field, as well as different work methods, in an extensive working life development project or as an expert
2) acquire expertise through other studies that develop expertise and supplement the degree

The participation requires 120 ECTS of Bachelor-level studies in the tourism and hospitality field.

Competences: Hospitality Management Competence, Proactive Development Competence, Sustainable Development Competence, Learning to Learn Competence

Based on the ISP, the assessment might follow different assessment criteria and scale.

• Exploring the operating environment based on the commission
• Deepening the knowledge of the commission-based themes in theory and practice (relevant case studies and examples, pre-assignments)
• Planning, coaching and implementation as well as assessment of the commission-based activities and reports
• Presentation of the results achieved in close collaboration with relevant stakeholders

Satisfactory (2)
The student has basic knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration some relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs quite passively in the commission-based activities and has somewhat limited abilities to apply team work skills in action. He/she shows vague analytical, reflective and critical approach in commission and team work-related tasks. The assignments are completed but not always performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

Poor (1)
The student has basic knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration some relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs passively in the commission-based activities and does not have the ability to apply team work skills in action. He/she has no analytical, reflective and critical approach in commission and team work-related tasks. The assignments are completed but not always performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

Fail (0)
The student does not complete the assignments according to the instructions or does not attend the learning situations at all. He/she does not pass the assignments, tests and/or the exam as required.

The student has very good knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration most of the relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action very well. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in most commission and team work-related tasks. All the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

Good (3)
The student has good knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration most of the relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs quite actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action well. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in most commission and team work-related tasks. Most of the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

Excellent (5)
The student has profound knowledge of the particular operating environment. The student knows how to take into consideration all the relevant issues when executing the commission. The student performs actively in the commission-based activities and is able to apply team work skills in action in an excellent manner. He/she shows analytical, reflective and critical approach in all commission and team work-related tasks. All the assignments are performed according to the instructions and deadlines.

Esitietovaatimukset

completed Project Management Skills study unit or acquired equivalent competence

- required competence:
The student knows key processes and the life cycle of project management.
He/she identifies key success and failure factors of the project as well as a team building process. The student knows to apply project management as a work method and is able to work in a multicultural team.
The student is able to define project goals, create a project work breakdown structure, activity and plan a simple budget. He/she is able to write a small-scale project plan and execute it. The student understands how to evaluate the project.
