Objective

The course provides the student with an opportunity to practice various grammatical structures for academic and professional contexts. Importance will be placed on development of grammatical competence, vocabulary and stylistic awareness.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will
1) be able to use correctly and effectively various grammatical structures and features of vocabulary that are important in various academic and professional contexts as well as in everyday life
2) have a fuller awareness of the impact of style in language use
3) have a greater understanding of how language works in human interactions.

Execution methods

Lectures and discussion (48 h), practical exercises on grammatical structures and idiomatic expressions, individual homework.

Accomplishment methods

Active participation in class work and regular attendance. Successful completion of the final exam.

Content

The course covers various features of English grammar, lexis and style that are essential to academic life and everyday interactions.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

5-1/fail based on the final exam and class participation.

Qualifications

Upper secondary school or equivalent. The course is aimed at learners who have the level C1 of the CEFR (the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
