Clinical Competence in Caring for a Surgical Patient (10cr)

Objective

Competence Goals:
Students have ability to operate in international interactions and in healthcare workplaces. S/He will be able to plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based nursing care to surgical patients. S/He will be able to identify different types of nursing supervision and decision-making situations. S/he will be able to confront dying patients and their loved ones professionally. In addition, student knows how to act in accordance with ethical values ​​and principles of nursing, name the main laws and regulations applied in the industry. S/He is able to document nursing care under supervision, in accordance with the national model and make a written report in which information is displayed based on the patient's treatment.
After the course student is able to explain the process of comprehensive care of surgical patients, surgical patient care and service chains. The student is familiar with the surgical diagnoses that are most commonly encountered in surgical nursing.
Student will be able to apply the law and ethical points of view and to be cost conscious when working as Surgical Nurse. S/He will be able to combine surgical diseases and cancer diseases and their diagnosis as well as deal with the changes that some specific treatments will bring to the patient’s overall heath care. S/He knows the acute pain management and chronic pain management. S/He will know how to support patients and their loved ones with the manner that is promoting health. S/He will be able to implement and evaluate the patient's nutrition care.
In addition, s/he can make and implement evidence-based surgical nursing plan in cooperation with the patient, his relatives and different professional groups. S/He can take into account the radiation safety of patient care.

Opiskelija selittää kokonaisvaltaisen kirurgisen potilaan hoitoprosessin sekä hoito- ja palveluketjut eri erikoisaloilla.
Toimii kirurgisen potilaan hoitoa ohjaavan lainsäädännön sekä hoitotyön eettisten periaatteiden mukaisesti.
Hyödyntää tietoa yleisimmistä kirurgisista sairauksista ja syöpätaudeista sekä niiden diagnostisoinnista ja hoidosta kirurgisen potilaan hoitotyössä.
Laatii kirurgisen potilaan hoitotyönsuunnitelman sekä osallistaa potilaan ja hänen läheisensä sen laadintaan.
Toimii potilasturvallisesti, suunnitelmallisesti ja johdonmukaisesti kirurgisen potilaan hoitotyössä ryhmän jäsenenä hyödyntäen näyttöön perustuvaa tietoa.
Ymmärtää ja käyttää hoitotyön ammattienglannin perussanastoa hoitotyössä sekä tuntee vaativampaakin alakohtaista termistöä.

Opiskelija soveltaa tietoa kirurgisen potilaan kokonaisvaltaisessa hoitoprosessissa eri erikoisaloilla sekä ymmärtää hoito- ja palveluketjujen erikoisalojen monimuotoisuuden.
Yhdistää toimintaansa kirurgisen potilaan hoitoa ohjaavan lainsäädännön sekä hoitotyön eettisen arvoperustan.
Soveltaa ja analysoi tietoa kirurgisista sairauksista ja syöpätaudeista sekä niiden diagnostisoinnista ja hoidosta potilaan kokonaisvaltaisessa hoitotyössä.
Laatii perustellen hoitotyönsuunnitelman yhteistyössä potilaan, hänen läheistensä ja moniammatillisen työryhmän kanssa huomioiden kirurgisen hoidon erityispiirteet.
Toimii näyttöön perustuvan tiedon pohjalta potilasturvallisesti kirurgisen potilaan eri hoitoympäristöissä moniammatillisen työryhmän jäsenenä analysoiden omaa toimintaansa.
Ymmärtää ja käyttää taitavasti ja täsmällisesti hoitotyön ammattienglannin perussanastoa sekä vaativampaa alakohtaista termistöä hoitotyön eri tilanteissa.
