Teaching methods

The learning pedagogy includes 30 contact lessons during which pair and group exercises are carried out, in addition to self-supervised studies done outside of class hours.
Reading and preparatory tasks prior to contact lessons are mandatory.
Class attendance is required to facilitate continuous evaluation


The objective of the English language studies is to provides opportunity for students to familiarize with communication practices in English both professionally and generally. Students learn and practice appropriate vocabulary in the field of fine arts in order to use them efficiently. Students practice to use English both in oral and written forms with appropriate field terminologies.

Exam schedules

Written and oral expression skills will be evaluated on a continuous basis during lessons.
Written and spoken proficiency tests must be accomplished successfully.
Students are allowed to re-do the tests twice to receive a passing grade

Content scheduling

There are individual and group tasks/exercises included in the module. The course consist of reading field specific articles, reports and viewing videos and film clippings. The course provides opportunities for students to present their choice of materials or any field trips that students are asked to make. Students learn to introduce subjects for discussions using proper phrases and procedures. Students are instructed to create their own professional portfolios and to pitch their own skills and competences. Students are provided instructions on writing CV and job application to promote their capabilities, and to take advantage of the entrepreneurial opportunities of the digital world. Students practice presenting own artistry and niche, writing to promote their competences and interactive skills in English.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

1-2 Objectives and contents of written and oral texts are contradictory. There are major flaws in the use of concepts and vocabulary. Few rhetorical modes are relied on. Texts are highly deficient in grammar, and in sentence and paragraph structures. These problems impede intelligibility. Texts are consistently lacking in the use of formal style. Texts are invariably deficient in giving the source information and using the layout practices. The feedback for corrections is not taken. No-copy pasting.

3-4 Objectives and contents of written and oral texts are logically in agreement. Core rhetorical modes are managed appropriately. The core concepts and vocabulary are mainly used appropriately and the style of communication is correct. Only occasional errors in grammar occur. Sentence and paragraph structures widely support intelligibility. Sources information is given correctly and layout practices are compliant. The feedback for corrections was obeyed. There is no copy-pasting.

5 Objectives and contents of written and oral texts are logically in agreement. Texts take full use of rhetorical modes, and the style is consistently formal. The concepts and vocabulary are managed in a compliant way. The structures of sentences and paragraphs are logical, and the grammar is consistently correct. Source information is systematically correctly managed, together with the layout practices. The feedback was fully appreciated. There is no-copy pasting.

You know how to make organic digital 3D models (people, animals, etc.) using advanced modeling methods. You know and master advanced modeling methods, e.g. image-based modeling and digital sculpting. You know how to modify the model's surface structure into a functional one.
You know how to make your 3D works available to the public both physically and digitally.

Content

You make organic digital 3D models (people, animals, etc.) using different modeling methods. You modify the character's surface structure into a functional one and attach the bones to the character. You move the character to the desired position. You control the transitions between analog and digital (image or physical object to digital model, digital model to physical piece). A physical and digital exhibition is built from the 3D works, which is open to the public.

Objective

You know how interactivity serves the visual artist.
You will be able to utilize interactive means in your creation and in the production of your works. You can create a public professional portfolio both in Finnish and English.

The language of instruction is English. You create a public professional portfolio both in Finnish and English. You use interactive means in creation and production of your works.

Satisfactory (1-2)
Assessment target: Artistic production, professional portfolio (bilingual), learning tasks

The professional portfolio is published online. The footage is technically functional. The student has utilized a ready-made free platform.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3-4)
The professional portfolio is functional and published online. The choice of visual material is justified and, visually, technically and content-wise functional. The student is able to use an online publishing platform.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5)
The professional portfolio is visually functional. The choice of material is well deliberated and justified in terms of visuality, technicality and content-wise. The student is able to utilise the network of publishing platform and create added value.
