Objective

Competencies in focus The aim of the study unit is to increase the students'knowledge of compassion at work, both in theirfield and others. Another objective is to developa mindset that is sensitive to the needs of othersand self with regard to compassion and emotionallabor. A third aim is to introduce and developpractical skills that will aid students inbecoming compassionate co-workers, and contributeto compassionate working environments. Learning outcomes After completing the study unit the student:- has gained a theoretical as well as practicalunderstanding of the main concepts: compassion,empathy, sympathy, ethics, and empathy fatigue- can analyze everyday situations, life domains,and work contexts where compassion is needed- demonstrates increased awareness of theimportant role of compassion at work from threedistinct perspectives: for one's own well-being,for the well-being of others, as well as fororganizations- has learned to appreciate the benefits oflearning from the best practices of otherprofessions- can understand why compassion can be taxing onan individual and what emotional labor is- can understand what emotion regulation is andknow of emotion regulation techniques and copingstrategies to help sustain one´s own well-being- can reflect on the ethical aspects of situationswhere compassion is needed- can understand their personal experiences ofcompassion in relation to theoretical knowledgeand the experiences from other professions
