Objective
The aim of the course is learning to understand media education as part of children’s and young people’s well-being. Competences: Ethical competences in the social field Competence in social client work Intended learning outcomes: You account for the perspective of protection in media education. You recognise the age limits for media use and potential adverse effects of overusing different media formats and smart devices. You are able to use digitalisation, smart devices and different forms of media when guiding and supporting the well-being, growth, development and learning as well as rehabilitation of children and young people. You are able to support guardians in providing media education for children and young people.
Content
The core content of the course includes the key concepts and principles as well as the perspective of protection in media education. You get to know different media devices and applications and learn to use digitalisation in delivering media education to children and young people of different ages. You also familiarise yourself with supporting guardians in media education.

Students can complete the course according to their own schedule, taking into account the due dates for the learning assignments.

Teaching methods
Independent e-learning and alternative learning tasks from the perspective of the student's own field of study. The course does not include webinars, but does include interactive assignments on a discussion board. The use of AI is allowed in this course to support learning and assignments, but it must be explained in the assignments and follow JAMK and Arene guidelines.
Employer connections
Learning task 2 can alternatively be carried out as an action-oriented implementation in working life instead of an essay-type task. In this case, the student himself/herself will find a possible venue for the operational implementation of media education
Exam schedules
The deadlines for returning learning tasks will be available on Moodle in March 2025. Return dates are March-May 2025
