Objective
The aim of the course is obtaining basic knowledge of the theoretical foundation of multidisciplinary gerontological rehabilitation and practical rehabilitation services for older people from the individual’s and society’s perspective. Course competences: Rehabilitation planning Assessment of needs and possibilities for rehabilitation Operation in working life Intended learning outcome: You will learn to understand the life course and agency of older people, as well as different generational perspectives at various stages of rehabilitation and recovery processes. You know how to describe appropriate service packages based on the rehabilitation needs of older people, taking into account their loved ones and service network. You can describe how elderly rehabilitees are guided and supported in taking responsibility for their own rehabilitation. You will be able to describe how the functioning and development of service structures for older people are monitored and evaluated, and how older people can participate in the development of their services.
Content
Key contents of the course comprise the multidisciplinary knowledge base of rehabilitation for older people, the service system and rehabilitation services as well as the special features of rehabilitation of older people, including agency, life course, continuity and activity, as well as guiding them in building up their functional capacity and agency.

Teaching methods
The entire course is conducted as non-stop online studies. You can study according to your own schedule. You guide your own work and reserve sufficient time for each section. You will study by familiarizing yourself with various text, audio, and video materials and completing learning assignments based on them. You can return to the learning materials and other content at any stage of the study module. During the course, you will familiarize yourself with the multidisciplinary knowledge base, service system, and rehabilitation services for older adults. You will reflect on the special features of rehabilitation for older adults, such as themes related to their agency, life course, and activity. You will learn how to strengthen the functional capacity, agency, and responsibility of older people through guidance. You will also reflect on current development needs related to service structures for older people. In self-reflection, you will consider your own learning and work during the course in relation to the personal learning goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the course.

Student workload
Familiarization with the course content and Moodle workspace, 2 hours. Setting and assessing personal learning objectives, 2 hours. Studying lecture recordings, 23 hours. Familiarization with learning materials and literature, 40 hours. Completing learning assignments in the Moodle workspace, 68 hours. Total: 135 hours.
Qualifications
You are able to describe the social welfare and health care service system and name acts that govern it. You are able to describe what the client's participation and agency in the service system mean and which values and principles guide the service system. You know how different guidance methods are used ethically and in a goal-oriented manner to promote functional capacity and participation in everyday operating environments.
