Objective
Having successfully completed the course, the student 1) can read and understand fairly long and complex texts in Italian 2) is familiar with the most common reading strategies and can apply them when reading a text 3) is familiar with different text types and their most important features 4) achieves reading comprehension skills at level B1 of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).
Methods of completion
Introductory meeting, independent work online, tutor meetings. In the introductory meeting, you are going to receive basic information and instructions on how to complete the course. After that, you will work independently using the materials and activities in the course’s Moodle workspace. During the course, you can also participate in a few tutor meetings in which we will practice reading comprehension strategies.

Content
The main objective of the course is to develop your reading comprehension skills in Italian, so that you will be able to read a broader variety of texts autonomously. During the course, we will read, analyze and discuss different types of texts, e.g. newspaper articles, simple literary texts, blog entries, and informative texts dealing with topics of Italian culture. Additionally, we will reflect on different reading comprehension strategies that will help you to work with texts of increasing complexity.
Teaching methods
The course consists of two parts: 1. Multilingual reading skills and 2. Italian reading comprehension. Part of the course meetings will be organized together with the teacher and students of the course TRAN0201 French reading comprehension.
Exam schedules
Final exam in the classroom at the end of the course.
Qualifications
Basic to intermediate knowledge of Italian language (min. CEFR A2). If you are unsure about your level, please contact the teacher before the beginning of the course. This course is not suitable for absolute beginners.
