Location and time

Students can plan the timing of the guided practice individually, in between 1.1.-31.8.2026.

The student will contact the supervising teacher sufficiently in advance to inform and negotiate the suitability of the paid guided practice unit. Teaching methods

Guided Practice in Family Health Care and Outpatient Services can be completed as a regular guided practice during the summer, or as a paid guided practice (= harjoittelun opinnollistaminen). For the guided practice, a supervising nurse is appointed from the workplace, and in case of a paid guided practice, a nurse mentor is acquired. A supervising teacher will be appointed by the school.

During guided practice student will utilize the Workseed electronic evaluation log, where the student records their personal goals, mid- and final evaluations. The student shares the evaluation log with the workplace supervising nurse or nurse mentor and requests feedback using Workseed during and at the end of the guided practice.

In case of a regular guided practice, the student will have both mid- and final evaluation discussion with the supervising nurse and the supervising teacher. In case of a paid guided practice, the student will make an appointment to have a final evaluation discussion with the supervising teacher. The supervising teacher will follow the progression of the guided practice in Workseed.

Completion alternatives

This Guided Practice in Family Health Care and Outpatient Services can be carried out as a paid guided practice (= harjoittelu opinnollistaen) if there is a registered nurse working in that practical training unit. The student will inform and negotiate sufficiently in advance with the supervising teacher about the suitability of the guided practice unit, before making plans or contracts.

The student will familiarize oneself thoroughly with the instructions and procedures of the paid guided practice (= harjoittelu opinnollistaen) in the Hoitotyön harjoittelut -Moodle, and follow the instructions carefully. The student will individually acquire a suitable work unit for the paid guided practice, as well as the nurse mentor. The student will enroll the guided practice work unit in the Hoitotyön harjoittelut -Moodle enrollment form, and write down, whether it is a regular non-paid, or a paid guided practice.

Student workload

8 ects = 5 weeks of guided practice.
Weekly guided practice hours are 38 h 45 min.
Total guided practice hours for the complete 5 weeks are 193 h 45 min.

Further information

The guided practice unit will be informed to the supervising teacher suffiently in advance, using Hoitotyön harjoittelut -Moodle enrollment form. The supervising teacher has the right to reject the work unit if it does not meet the goals and objectives of this guided practice.

Previous theoretical studies must be completed (the exam excluded, exam can be completed during or after the guided practical training). Also medicine calculations must be completed and approved during the previous semester before the guided practice begins.
