Objective

The student becomes familiar with the Finnish National Certificate of Language Proficiency at the A2 level (basic level YKI test).
The student gets acquainted with the four different subtests, structures, and question types of the YKI test and learns how to register for the test. The student develops his/her producing skills and answering techniques for spoken and written tasks required in the test.
Student improves his/her abilities to self-evaluate language skills and possible success in the test.
The actual YKI test is not included in this study unit.

Location and time

The implementation of the course is independent of time and place. The studies are mainly carried out with the help of independent assignments. In addition, 10 online meetings are organized, and participation in is recommended. In addition, participating in one simulated subtest for speaking is required.

Student workload

Five ETCS credits equals 135 working hours. Eight online meetings are organized during the course. The independent assignments are recommended to be done on a daily basis.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Approved: The student completes all assignments in Moodle and participates in two practice tests of their own skill level.
Failed The student does not complete assignments in Moodle or does not participate in the practice tests of their own skill level.

Approved: Student completes compulsory assignments and participates in compulsory oral communication exercises according to the instructions and timetable.

Further information

The study unit aims at A2 level test (basic level test) students, but it is suitable also for those practicing for B-level (intermediate level) test. The study unit covers the task types of both levels and it is possible to practice on one's own skills level. In Moodle part of the assignments are mutual for both levels and part of the tasks aim at either skills level A or B.
