Objective

The aim of this course is to improve your reading and conversation skills and to expand your knowledge of abstract terms.

Having completed the course you will
1) understand the main ideas of topical newspaper articles
2) have the skills to tackle the texts of your own field
3) be able to discuss a variety of topical themes
4) have the opportunity to achieve level B2 in text comprehension and conversation of the six-level CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Execution methods

Group meetings 36 hours and independent work 45 hours. To complete the course, you have to actively participate in the exercises, complete your assignments and work independently on what you have learned. You may also complete the course remotely.

Accomplishment methods

Regular attendance (80%) in group meetings, active participation in the exercises, and completing the individual and group assignments. Final exam.

If you study remotely, you are required to complete the individual assignments and participate in the online meetings.

Content

You will read texts related to issues being discussed in society. You will also study relatively easy academic texts according to your own interests and objectives. Discussions based on the texts.

XFIN0226 Structures of Standard Written Finnish or corresponding skills (language skill level B1–B2).
