Objective

The overall aim is that you will develop more academic writing skills. This could be your
thesis, writing a conference publication, chapter, or a journal article. By participating in the
seminar, the doctoral candidates will be able to:

• gain an overall idea of the variety of peer review publications relevant to their field of study
• find suitable publishing forums for their own research
• understand the processes of submitting, editing and publishing a peer reviewed article
• produce a manuscript for a peer reviewed publication and receive expert supervision and feedback on their material.
• Understand and plan their own “research onion”

Accomplishment methods

Participation in the individual and group activities. The participants will be writing a scientific publication or a part of their thesis. You will need to send your publication that you wish to work at Keropirtti one week ahead to the emails below:
Mari.Suoheimo@aho.no
satu.miettinen@ulapland.fi

To successfully complete the course, the doctoral researcher needs to:
• actively participate in the course
• complete assignments required.

Content

Our idea is that you as participant of the course would have one week to write in peace. In the mornings there will be guided sessions where there will be lectures and peer-support. Afternoons are writing time. During the week the teachers will have one-to-one time to comment your papers and thesis.

Participants will write short (3 study credits) or long (5 study credits) research papers under supervision. The papers will be reviewed by the participating professors and peer reviewed by the course participants. Students can also focus on publications related to different research projects. This course welcomes doctoral students from different universities if study space permits. Up to 8-10 participants will be accepted in the course.

The Publishing Seminar creates a platform for getting to know and authoring peer reviewed publications relevant to the field of practice-based service design and design research. The seminar brings together senior and junior researchers.

Depending on participant numbers, students will be divided into small groups based on different topics. The students will work independently, producing academic writing and a presentation of the work progress during feedback sessions with professors and peers.
