Objective

Student achieves basic knowledge related to the metallic materials used in additive manufacturing (AM). He/she knows mechanical and corrosion properties of powder metallurgically (PM) manufactured product. Student understands which metals can be used in AM applications and achieves basics of typical material defects and on their influence on product properties. Finally standardization of the AM materials are reviewed as well as the NDT / DT testing fundamentals.

Content

Additive manufacturing (AM) of metals, direct and indirect technologies. Inner structure, mechanical and corrosion properties of AM product. Non-alloyed steels, stainless steels, copper, nickel, cobalt alloys, Maraging steels. NDT and DT testing of AM products. Material standards.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Student has a fair knowledge on AM technologies and is not able to define metallic materials used in those technologies. Student cannot characterize mechanical and corrosion properties for different materials and is not able to define how properties differ from the wrought product. He/she has fair knowledge on the AM product material defects and cannot name defects typical for different manufacturing technologies.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student has a good knowledge on AM technologies and can define metallic materials used in those technologies. Student is capable to characterize mechanical and corrosion properties for different materials and can define how properties differ from the wrought product. He/she has a good knowledge on the AM product material defects and can characterize typical defects related to different manufacturing technologies.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student has excellent knowledge on AM technologies and is able to define principles of different technologies. He/she is capable to define metallic materials used in those technologies. Student fluently characterizes mechanical and corrosion properties for different materials and can define how and why properties differ from the wrought product. He/she has a good knowledge on the AM product material defects and can define typical defects related to different manufacturing technologies.
