Objective

The course is aimed at students who wish to strengthen their English language skills before completing the English courses that are part of their degree (compulsory courses).

The course provides students with an opportunity to advance their spoken and written communication skills. The course will focus on improving overall oral and reading comprehension, oral interaction and production. The objectives of the course are to develop skills and competences necessary for fluent, accurate and effective use of spoken English on a wide range of topics connected to the students’ academic and leisure activities, as well as to broaden active reading vocabulary and to introduce efficient strategies for the enhancement of students’ reading comprehension.

Upon successful completion of the course the students are able to
1. communicate confidently on familiar matters related to their interests and field of study;
2. enter unprepared into conversation, express personal opinions and exchange, check and confirm information;
3. adapt style and speed of reading to different texts and purposes, grasp the essential meaning of different texts;
4. identify the elements of different text types and genres.

Content

The course focuses on the activation of oral and reading skills. Students will be offered a range of pair and group interactions aimed at the advancement of their vocabulary, practicing conversation and reading strategies, and learning grammatical patterns.
