Objective

The student learns to understand business operations (B2B), supply and distribution networks, customer value, and profitability. The student learns about the current and the future management and leadership. The student learns Lean Management principles in a business or an organization with continuous improvement with small and incremental changes to improve the value of products or services (with improved quality) and decrease wastes, defects, and costs. The student understands the impact of sustainable development and circular economy on industrial engineering.

Content

How to run business operations.
Lean management principles; factors contributing to organizational waste; examining ways to eliminate waste; developing & implementing improved organizational processes, for significant impact to the company’s bottom line.
How lean management today represents a profound change in the competitive business culture and a leading indicator of excellence in the organization
Basic principles of lean management strategy, in POM (production and operations management) & supply chain management
How by implementing lean management organizations can improve product & processes without adding any more money, people, equipment, inventory, or space and aim for perfection.

Location and time

Contact teaching in the autumn of 2025 in the premises according to the schedule. Other studies according to your own schedule.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student recognizes the basic concepts of business (B2B), delivery and distribution networks, as well as the importance of customer value and profitability. The student understands the basic concepts of management and the main principles of Lean management, but their application to practice is still limited. The student is able to describe the impacts of sustainable development and circular economy on industrial economy but is not yet able to assess their practical significance in business.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Students will be able to apply business (B2B) principles and assess the impact of supply and distribution networks on customer value and profitability. The student understands the principles of Lean management and is able to identify the factors that cause organizational waste and identify ways to eliminate them. Students will be able to analyze the role of management in business development and assess the impacts of sustainable development and circular economy on industrial economy.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student is able to thoroughly analyze the business (B2B) operating environment, delivery and distribution networks, and the connections between customer value and profitability. Students will be able to apply Lean management principles in practice and develop organizational processes on the principle of continuous improvement. Students will be able to critically evaluate and develop management practices and analyze the impacts of sustainable development and circular economy on industrial efficiency and long-term strategies.
