Objective

This course emphasizes the importance of communicative competence as part of students’ expertise. The course will focus on developing skills and strategies for negotiation and problem solving, collaborative teamwork and intercultural communication.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student
1) is able to make conscious choices about applying communication strategies in different academic and professional contexts.
2) is able to collaborate in groups, negotiate to solve problems, and present ideas and information clearly and concisely.
3) is able to give and receive constructive feedback.
4) is able to consider the effect of culture in communication situations.
5) has acquired resources for the ongoing learning of communication skills and spoken English.

Execution methods

Group-oriented learning, independent work.

Accomplishment methods

Active participation, required attendance, successful completion of the course assignments.

Content

Students will have an opportunity to develop academic communication skills, field-specific vocabulary and confidence through focused pair and small-group activities.
