Objective

After the study unit the student
- knows the basics and sub-areas of nature exercise and deepens knowledge of nature exercise.
- knows how to name the work tools of experiential pedagogy in guiding the activities of individuals and groups. use the methods of nature exercise and experiential pedagogy to support human growth and development.
- knows how to appreciate movement in nature and nature conservation, and know how to name the different possibilities and effects of nature exercise in promoting human well-being.

Teaching methods

This course has a strong emphasis on experiential learning. Students are involved in the production and design of the course content. The course includes time-bound online learning, independent and guided group work, and field interventions. On week is spend outdoors.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Level 1
Adventure pedagogy:
The student masters the process of adventure education and uses adventure education methods in a guided way to develop individual and group activities.
The student plans in a guided way adventure education activities taking into account the risks and safety aspects of the activities.

Level 2
Adventure pedagogy:
The student masters the process of adventure education and uses adventure education methods in a guided way and partly independently to develop individual and group activities.
The student plans adventure education activities taking into account the risks and safety aspects of the activities.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Level 3
Adventure pedagogy:
The student plans and implements adventure education methods independently to develop individual and group activities, taking into account the objectives of the group.
The student is aware of and anticipates safety challenges related to the safety of activities and actively seeks to develop activities to improve safety.

Level 4
Adventure pedagogy:
The student plans and implements adventure education methods independently to develop individual and group activities, taking into account the profile and the objectives of the group.
The student is aware of and anticipates safety challenges related to the safety of activities and is able to develop activities to improve safety.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Level 5
Adventure pedagogy:
The student creates and develops new methods of adventure education to develop individual and group activities, taking into account the starting level and objectives of the group. The activities have an impact on the experience of group cohesion and well-being.

Further information

Student will need a sleeping back, sleeping mattress and back back.

A degree student attending the University of Lapland can register free of charge for studies offered by the Lapland University of Applied Sciences, if the studies can be linked to their own degree.
