Objective
Upon completing this module, the student should be able to discuss in depth various questions related to the law of international organizations
Execution methods
A) 2 ECTS: lectures + lecture test
B) 3 ECTS: Written examination on Klabbers Jan, An Introduction to International Organizations Law (4th ed., Cambridge, 2022).
The written examination is available as an e-exam in the electrical exam service (called EXAM).
NB. It is recommended that you study both parts (A&B) simultaneously as they are planned to support each other. However, you need to take (and pass) first the lecture test (A). The 5 ECTS of the entire study module will be registered after you have passed also part B. Total grade of the study module: A: 40% + B: 60%.
Accomplishment methods
The module consists of 2 parts (A & B):
A) 2 ECTS: lectures
B) 3 ECTS: (electronic) literature exam
Content
The course will focus on the development and operation of the United Nations and/or other international organizations.

Registration for the course: in Peppi a week before the course, code ONEVAL0039 (also for students using the course for ONEVAL0029). Minimum group size: 8 students. Evaluation scale: F/1-5
Teaching methods
NB! By passing this course you will gain (not 2 but) 3 ECTS that will cover the part A (2 ECTS) AND 1 ECTS for part B. In order to gain the 2 more ECTS for part B, you need to pass the (electronic) literature examination on the book by Klabbers but only for Chapters 2-10 (pp. 24-221). Once you are ready to take this narrower literature exam (after having passed the "International Organizations & Legal Instruments" course), send an email to Prof. Viikari (Lotta.Viikari at ulapland.fi).
The 3 ECTS course consists of lectures in person & lecture recordings (+ lecture test) and a group work treaty drafting exercise to be presented in a seminar (in person). The lecturers are Professor Emeritus Matti Niemivuo and Professor of Public International Law Lotta Viikari, who also organize the seminar together.
