Competence goals
You know the most common geriatric diseases, recommendations for elderly nursing and methods of ethical gerontological nursing.
You are able to plan, implement and evaluate nutrition and pharmaceutical treatment as well as drug-free treatment, taking into account the special characteristics of the elderly.
You are able to utilize health and functional assessment methods and you are able to plan, implement and evaluate health and functional promotion interventions in nursing care for the elderly in a multidisciplinary context.
You know how to interact professionally and caringly with an elderly client / patient and their loved ones.
You can apply teaching and guidance methods and digital services in a variety of ways in nursing the elderly and fostering self-care.
You can utilize wellness technology in different operating environments of gerontological nursing.
You know the fundamental principles of end-of-life nursing.

Teaching methods
The teaching is carried out using the Flipped classroom method, simulations, workshops, teaching discussions and lecture teaching.
The teaching is carried out together with the Finnish-speaking group, so the used languages are English and Finnish

It is possible to complete the course as Finnish online-courses: for example Karelia: Ikäihmisen aktiivinen arki 5 op + Lapin AMK/XAMK: Gerontologia 5 op

You select the most suitable teaching and guidance methods for different situations in elderly care.
You can apply electronic guidance methods in accordance with the purpose.
