Objective

1. To place the Finnish legal system within the Nordic and Continental families of law.
2. To give an overview of the Finnish legal system.

Execution methods

1 ECTS cr.: Lectures (10 h) and lecture exam (EXAM).
3 ECTS cr.: Lectures (10 h) and lecture exam (EXAM), extra exam (EXAM) for 2 ECTS cr.
5 ECTS cr.: Lectures (10 h) and lecture exam (EXAM), extra exam (EXAM) for 4 ECTS cr.

Attendance (physical presence) during the lectures is compulsory. More information about the exams will be provided during the lectures. The lecture series will be held both on autumn and spring term.

1. The Nordic legal systems (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden): historical background, foreign influences, similarities and differences, Nordic legal cooperation
2. Systematics, history, and basic concepts of the Finnish legal system.
