Objective

For everyone wishing to have a successful career in a globalized world, communication skills (particularly in English) are essential.

Upon successful completion of the course the student should be able to
1) reflect on, assess and communicate about their professional and academic interests, skills and abilities
2) produce attractive, powerful and professional-looking documents for the job application process
3) identify and assess tools and channels for finding interesting jobs and career opportunities
4) work collaboratively in teams and negotiate to solve problems
5) plan and deliver an effective and persuasive presentation that follows academic and professional conventions.

Execution methods

Contact teaching (24h) including class discussions, individual, pair and group assignments. Independent and group tasks and discussions on Moodle (57h).

Accomplishment methods

Active participation in class discussion, successful completion of assignments, regular class attendance. Preparing for each class beforehand by completing tasks on Moodle and participating actively and regularly in discussions, feedback sessions and other activities and tasks on Moodle.

Content

The course provides the student with an opportunity to develop their communication skills in English for career development purposes.

The course will be tailored to the students’ wishes focusing on themes such as: tools and channels for finding jobs, producing documents for the job application process, using social media for career purposes, job interviews, presentations, collaborating in teams, networking and intercultural communication.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass/fail based on completion of the course assignments.
