Objective

The student knows the legal environment of a company.
The student knows the basics of contract and corporate law and their meaning and role in business.
He/she can retrieve and apply legal information.
He/she recognises main legal factors and challenges in business in the field of contract and corporate law.

Content

Basics of contract law:
- an overview of Finnish legislation and the courts of justice
- law of the person
- the meaning and contents of contract
- different types of contracts
- sale of goods
- consumer protection
- the main principles of compensation for damage

Basics of corporate law:
- freedom of trade
- establishing a company
- company forms and their special features

Searching and applying judicial knowledge into practice in the field of contract and corporate law.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Level 1
Business Law:
The student knows the basics of contract and corporate law.
He/she can retrieve and apply legal information in simple cases as well as recognize the meaning of legal factors and main legal challenges in business in the field of contract and corporate law.

Level 2
Business Law:
The student can explain the basic knowledge of contract and corporate law and give examples of them.
He/she is able to find and use this legal information with assistance but cannot fully apply it.
He/she can give examples/describe legal challenges in business in the field of contract and corporate law.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Level 3
Business Law:
The student understands the basics of contract and corporate law.
He/she can retrieve and apply relevant legal information by leaning on the study material/given instructions.
The student has an understanding of legal factors and main legal challenges in business.

Level 4
Business Law:
The student has good knowledge and understanding of the basics of contract and corporate law.
The student is able to take legal factors into account when making decisions.

Level 5
Business Law:
The student has a command of the basics of contract and corporate law.
He/she can efficiently retrieve and apply legal information in business problem solving and justify the decisions.
The student can foresee legal challenges in business in the field of contract and corporate law.

Contract and corporate law part:
1) Law Case assignment done in groups (4-5 students) 30%:
2) Exam done in small groups (1-3 persons) 70%

• Self and peer evaluation
