Objective

The student recognises megatrends and their effects on work life. He/she knows how the constant changes in work life effect on one’s skills and knowledge needed in work life.

The student is able to recognise his/her strengths and weaknesses and is able to use the strengths, experience and personal interests in creating a digital professional profile and a CV.

The student knows the basic self-branding techniques and is able to apply them in creating and developing a professional profile and personal brand. He/she is able to use social media tools in professional networking and building a professional profile.

The student is able to explore suitable career options and create a job seeking and professional development plan. The student has job seeking knowledge and skills and is able to apply them in practise.

Execution methods

Learning process is organized through the project work and problem-solving process. It includes teamwork, team tasks, team tutoring, independent studies and knowledge acquisition activities.

Software requirements: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Teams), Google Chrome.

Accomplishment methods

The course will support the development of students’ key skills in the areas of self-branding, professional self-positioning, career planning and management.

Content

High-level content:

1. megatrends and work life changes
2. digitalisation: tools and skills
3. work in Finland: work ethics, education recognition, requirements towards language, qualifications etc.
4. own identity: self-assessment, awareness of own values and needs
5. professional profile: goal setting, network, career planning (role clarity, growth plan)
6. self-branding: techniques, social media usage (role in job seeking and networking), setting up LinkedIn profile
7. hiring framework: job seeking documents (CV, cover letter, portfolio, application letters), process (LinkedIn recruiter profile, candidates screening etc.)
8. job application: job market and employer analysis, communication with the companies
9. job interview simulation, job seeking plan
10. career resilience: career success concept, entrepreneurial mindset, open applications and other ways of getting to the talent pool

The course is offline, all the lectures are held on campus.

Teaching methods

Exam schedules

According to the new Degree Regulations, if the student doesn’t do anything during the implementation of the study unit, he/she will be removed from the enrollment list. If students have done some of the assignments but fail then they have an opportunity to retake two times in order to pass the study unit.

Level 1

The student is able to recognise megatrends and changes in work life and their effects on required competence.

The student is able to name his/her strengths and weaknesses and take into account the strengths, experience and personal interests in creating a digital professional profile and a CV.

He/she knows the basic self-branding techniques and is able to apply them. He/she is able to use social media tools in professional networking and building a professional profile.

The student has job seeking knowledge and skills and is able to explore suitable career options. He/she is able to make a job seeking and simple professional development plan.

Level 2

The student knows his/her strengths and weaknesses and is able to use them and his/ her personal experience and interests in creating a digital professional profile and a CV.
