Content

This course can be completed both at the University of Lapland (during any chosen term), or during a student exchange or an internship in a German-speaking country. Participants follow the German TV news show "Tagesschau" or a similar Austrian or German-Swiss news program on state television for 8 consecutive weeks, watching at least 24 different broadcasts. Participants may watch the program television or on the internet. They keep a diary, taking down the main news of the day, and following their development over the chosen period. They also produce a vocabulary/phraseology of the central terminology used. Diary and vocabulary/phraseology may be kept in Finnish or in English. The diary is to be a total of 10-12 pages long. The vocabulary/phraseology will probably amount to another 2–4 pages. Both parts are either sent to the teacher by email, or are handed in on paper after return to the University of Lapland.
