Objective

Student
- Can determine the regeneration maturity of a forest and choose the regeneration chain
- Identifies, knows how to delimit and takes into account the valuable habitats of forest nature
- Can determine the need for thinning of young stand and for thinning (by forest compartments), estimate the removal of felling by timber species and the amount of remaining trees
- Can delimit stand forest compartments based on forest management solutions
- Is able to determine the quality factors of timber harvesting in the terrain and understand the effects of different factors on harvesting conditions
- Is able to draw a viable timber harvesting plan
- Knows the basics and practice of forest road design and construction and knows the management of private roads
- Knows the data contents of forest data materials utilized in Finland
- Can transfer data using a transfer file in accordance with the forest information standard
- Can use forest information systems to manage forest resource information and make pre-compartments
- Can collect forest resource information with forest information systems in terrain applications
- Knows the properties of forest data and is able to utilize the data in planning operations

Student is able to partially utilize his/her knowledge of forest regeneration and management methods in practical solutions, but is unable to justify his/her choice. Student can identify valuable habitats of forest nature in the terrain and can delimit them. Student can partially utilize information obtained from the terrain in defining and delimiting the object to be felled. Student can estimate the total amount of wood and felling removal by timber species m3/ha. Student can list the stages of forest road design and construction and knows the management of private roads.

Student knows the importance of forest information systems in the management of forest resources. Student knows modern forest resource data materials used in forest industry tasks and is able to utilize them in planning tasks. Student knows the properties of different forest and spatial data materials used in forestry planning and operational tasks.

Student recognizes the valuable habitats of forest nature in the terrain and is able to delimit and take them into account in activities. Student can utilize information from the terrain for stand and logging planning. Student can estimate the total amount of wood and felling removal by timber species m3/ha as well as the quality characteristics of timber. Student nows the basics and practice of forest road design and construction and knows the management of private roads.

Student knows the importance of forest information systems in the management of forest resources. Student knows modern forest resource data materials used in forest industry tasks. Student knows the properties of various forest and spatial data materials used in planning and operational tasks and is able to utilize them in field and in office work in forest planning tasks. Student knows the uncertainties related to the use of materials.

The student is able to utilize his/her knowledge of forest regeneration and forest management methods independently in practical solutions and evaluate the economics and effectiveness of solutions made. He/she identifies the valuable habitats of forest nature in the terrain, is able to limit and take them into account and manages them according to regulations, recommendations and certification criteria. He/she can analyze stand structure and assess marketability of stand and assess feasibility of timber harvesting plan. Student knows the basics and practices of forest road design and construction and knows the management of private roads and assess the significance of forest roads for wood procurement.

Student understands the importance of forest information systems in management of forest resources. Student knows modern forest resource data materials used in forest industry tasks and is able to utilize them in planning tasks. Student knows the properties of various forest and spatial data materials used in planning and operational tasks and is able to utilize them in field and office work. Student understands the significance of uncertainties related to data use for the utilization of data and is able to take uncertainties into account in design tasks. Student is able to evaluate the reliability of data based on available statistics and other information.
