Objective

Osaat soveltaa sosiaali-, terveys- ja hyvinvointialan englanninkielistä ammattisanastoa suullisesti ja kirjallisesti. Osaat hyödyntää englanninkielisiä näyttöön perustuvia tietolähteitä ja digitaalisia aineistoja. Osaat tunnistaa alan englannin kielen tieto-ja taitotasosi ja mahdollisuutesi kehittää kielitaitoasi.

Content

Hoitotyön englantiin liittyvät kirjalliset ja suulliset kommunikointitehtävät (teemoina mm. lääketieteen terminologiaa, anatomia, potilastiedot, raportointi, haastattelu, ohjaus, neuvonta ja kohtelias kielenkäyttö).

Virtual and digital teaching and learning methods. Activating lectures and learning activities in Zoom (31h), learning tasks and independent learning in small study groups (103h), feedback sessions (3 h)
Learning tasks (demonstration of spoken and written competence) :
1.Initial and final self assessments (initial self assessment and selection of study unit completion option, commitment to selected option, assessment of competence development) 2. Scientific article skimming assignment 3. Anatomy tutorial and medical terminology 4. Kanta-service in guiding and counselling 5.Patient medical history and report 6. Client- nurse case

Exam schedules

In the independent completion option, the student takes a written and spoken exam and shows his/her competence in terms of the study unit themes and vocabulary. Written test is done in Exam and the spoken one in Zoom.

International connections

The study unit aims to foster the student's international competence in terms of academic and practical themes in nursing.

Completion alternatives

Student can choose from two study unit completion options. Commitment to the selected option will be indicated in the initial self assessment. (introduced in WEB 1 INFO) Initial self-assessment is obligatory for all.

1. Course option (see description above): competence demonstration through active participation in 90% of the online learning sessions, by theme related learning tasks in small study groups, ( no exam) and in the feedback sessions.
2. Independent completion option: competence demonstration through written and spoken exams about the theme related vocabulary and contents, (no participation in WEB sessions) and by participating in a feedback session.

Student workload

Course option: 31h participation in learning activities in AC and feedback sessions ( apprx. 3 h) , 103 h independent learning tasks in small study groups.
Independent completion option:135 h of independent study (including written and spoken exam and a feedback session)

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Käytät hoitotyön ammattienglannin perussanastoa hoitotyössä sekä tunnet vaativampaakin alakohtaista termistöä.
Hyödynnät englanninkielisiä näyttöön perustuvia tietolähteitä ja digitaalisia aineistoja.
Tunnistat alan englannin kielen tieto-ja taitotasosi ja mahdollisuutesi kehittää kielitaitoasi.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Käytät taitavasti ja täsmällisesti hoitotyön ammattienglannin perussanastoa sekä vaativampaa alakohtaista termistöä hoitotyössä.
Hyödynnät kriittisesti arvioiden englanninkielisiä näyttöön perustuvia tietolähteitä ja digitaalisia aineistoja.
Hallitset alan englannin kielen tieto-ja taitotasosi ja mahdollisuutesi kehittää kielitaitoasi.

Further information

All Zoom session will be recorded , but live participation in the info session is highly recommended to all students.
In the course option, 90% attendance in WEB sessions is obligatory. (option 1)
In the exam option, attendance in WEB sessions is voluntary. (option 2)

Student will choose the completion option in the initial self assessment, which will open in Moodle after the INFO Web 1 session.
