Objective
The course provides the student with an opportunity to develop critical and active reading skills. The course will focus on texts and terminology typically encountered in academic study and the student’s field of study. The objective of the course is to develop skills, strategies and other resources the student will need to read academic and field-specific texts more effectively.
Upon successful completion of the course the student
1) is able to use reading strategies purposefully for critical reading.
2) identifies different types of texts.
3) recognises various text structures and terminology.
4) understands the structure of academic texts and research articles.
5) is able to analyze, interpret and evaluate different types of texts.
6) is able to follow research in their field of study.
Content
The course focuses on reading academic texts and other professional literature. Students will work collaboratively in groups to analyze, interpret and evaluate different types of texts.
Qualifications
Upper secondary school or equivalent.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass/fail based on completion of the course assignments, active participation.
