Objective

After finishing the course, the student:
1. Understands the multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary nature of gender studies and is familiar with the key research concepts.
2. Knows the history of the of the discipline and understands the basic principles of feminist production of knowledge.
3. Can pose questions concerning cultural and social equality.

Content

The course provides knowledge on gender on a theoretical and conceptual level, and also from experiential viewpoints. The students will focus on the evolvement of the discourses of equality, feminism, and gender studies, and the key principles of research. Conceptual tools are given for understanding the multiplicity of genders and sexualities and gendered cultural and societal phenomena.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

0 Fail The learning diary includes significant errors or misunderstandings.
1-2 The learning diary refers to the topics of the course, although briefly and in a detached manner. The diary may include misunderstandings or over simplifications of the topic of the course.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

3-4 The learning diary is prepared according to the instructions. The texts demonstrates the ability of the student to understand and reflect course themes comprehensively, although some minor lacks may occur.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

5 The learning diary demonstrates that the student has understood the contents of the course comprehensively and is able to apply the knowledge acquired to wider contexts. The text shows strong independent thinking and critical reflection, and is well written.
